Maury Norwood Abbott Jr. AKA Woody, 84, was born in Savannah, GA on December 8, 1933 to Maury Norwood Abbott Sr. and Ann Abbott. He died at Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach, FL on Friday, January 19, 2018 from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. He grew up in Savannah and graduated from Benedictine Military School and enlisted in the Navy after graduation. After serving time in the Navy he returned to Savannah and married his first wife Katherine and started their family.
He moved to Merritt Island, FL in the early 60’s to open the new K-Mart store where he stayed until K- mart needed him to open another store down south. He returned to Brevard county in 1985 to work with his best friend Bob Barnas at Topline Appliance.
Woody lived in Cape Canaveral for the last 30 years and in his much loved condo at Costa del Sol for the last 24 years.
He loved to travel and enjoyed showing his second wife Deb Savannah and all the back roads of Georgia, North and South Carolina, as well as Tennessee. His most favorite thing to do was to take his wife on cruises out of Port Canaveral with friends. He made friends easily and remained a charming southern gentleman to the end. Every woman that met him in his later years would tell his wife “He is so cute.”
He is survived by his wife Deborah, Daughters; Patricia of Savannah, GA, Kathy of Jacksonville, FL and Alice of Cocoa, FL, and a son Jason of Daytona Beach, FL.
