Maurine “Mimi” Thompson Voyles went to be with her Lord on June 10, 2012 at the age of 98. She was born on Friday, November 13, 1913 in Bay City, Texas to Ada Brimer Thompson and Frank Arthur Thompson. She attended the University of Texas in Austin and Rice University. Maurine was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 54 years, J. D. Voyles, her brother, Bill Thompson and her son, Jerry Voyles. She is survived by her daughter, Marcia Sawyer, son-in-law, Thomas Sawyer, daughter-in-law, Ellen Voyles, grandsons, Jeff Waggener and Scott Voyles, granddaughter, Katherine Lamb, great grandchildren, Brent Waggener, Kristen Waggener, Adrienne Lamb, Allie Voyles, and Taylor Voyles. Maurine was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Bay City and Colonial Hills United Methodist Church in San Antonio. She was a founder and served as first president of the Pink Ladies Hospital Auxiliary, a Girl Scout Troop Leader for many years, a member of Chatauqua and an avid bridge player. She made beautiful clothes for her children, grandchildren, and herself and loved preparing wonderful meals for family members. She will always be remembered for her incredible fudge. She followed University of Texas Longhorn Sports closely and was an enthusiastic Longhorn fan for many years. Maurine was much loved and enjoyed by friends and family members alike. She had a keen sense of humor and a very strong spirit. Her family was richly blessed to have her for so many years.
