Maurine Louise Holmes, age 99, passed away on January 29, 2021. She is survived by her children John R. (Nancy Weber) Holmes, Kenneth S. Holmes, and Mary Jo Holmes; niece Mary Clare Ageton, nephews Richard Ageton and Don Ageton, and others. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert S. (Bob) Holmes (1997), her mother, Mabel Clare (Elder) Bane (1978), her father, Harvey John Bane (1962) and her six brothers and sisters, Orpha, John, Fleta, Chauncey, Opal, and Joybelle. Maurine was born on July 15, 1921 in Chicago, IL to parents Harvey and Mabel Bane. Her father was a Methodist minister and she grew up in various areas of the Midwest. She attended Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, where she earned a teaching degree. She had a copy of her first teaching contract in 1943, showing a salary $1200 per year. She met her future husband Bob in San Antonio, TX during WWII and they were married there on January 12, 1945. They had three children, John, Ken, and Mary Jo. Maurine was a loving and devoted professional housewife while Bob acquired a succession of better jobs in transportation-related businesses. They raised their family in Washington D.C., New Haven CN, and Huntingdon, PA before settling in Pittsburgh, PA until Bob retired (the first time). Afterwards they resided in Stamford, CN and Hilton Head, SC. When Bob passed away (1997), Maurine remained in Hilton Head until 2005, and then moved to Columbus, OH to be near daughter Mary Jo. She resided at The Forum at Knightsbridge senior home from 2005. Maurine and Bob were lifelong Bridge players, a practice she continued at The Forum. She was a voracious reader. Danielle Steele was a favorite author in her later years though she could be seen reading Nicholas Sparks too.
