Maurice “Parky” Parkinson, 86 of Centralia, passed away Friday, July 22, 2016 at Marion Veterans Affairs Community Living Center. He was born April 21, 1930 in Centralia, IL, son of C. Wallace Parkinson and Louise W. (Copple) Parkinson. He married Carolyn Sue Tate on June 19, 1955 at the Dix Methodist Church and she survives him.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter: Rebecca Nix and husband Frank of Bluford, IL, a son: Duane Parkinson and wife Denise of Claremore, OK, granddaughters: Felicia Nix and husband Arlo Holmes of Bloomington, Il., Megan Parkinson of Claremore, OK, Amanda Jones and husband Myles of Claremore, OK, Emily Parkinson of Claremore, OK, Grandson: Aaron Nix and wife Christine of University Place, WA, Great-grandchildren William Breeden of Bloomington, Il, Johnathon Nix of University Place, WA, Claire Nix of University Place, WA, Marcus Parkinson of Claremont, OK, two Brothers: Jimmie Parkinson and wife JoAnn of Bartlett, TN, Darrel Parkinson and wife Patty of Centralia, Il, and a sister Janet Sheils and husband Tom of Seneca Falls, NY. He is preceded in death by his parents. Maurice served in the US Navy during the Korean War on the USS Helena.
He was a mechanic and worked for Holtkamp Electric Company as a store manager in Crossville during the 1960’s and 1970’s. He was a Life Member of the Carmi VFW Post 3851 and served as past 13th District Commander. He was a member of the Centralia American Legion post 446, 40 & 8 Association and was very active in the Military Honor Guard. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
