Maurice E. “Moppy” Sims, 86, of Jacksonville, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at Barton W. Stone Home in Jacksonville.

He was born Nov. 18, 1922, in Jacksonville, the son of Byron James and Wilnora Hayden Sims. He married Patricia Large on Aug. 6, 1950, and she survives.

He is also survived by two daughters, Deborah (husband, Joe) Ciaccio of Springfield and Diane (husband, Michael) Hequet of Jacksonville; one son, Byron (wife, Cindi) Sims of Carlinville; four grandchildren, Joseph (wife, Amanda) Ciaccio of Springfield, Michael Ciaccio of Chicago, and Thomas Sims and Catherine Sims, both of Carlinville. He was preceded in death by three brothers, the Rev. Glen H. Sims, Robert Sims and Van Dean Sims; and one sister, Alice Wilber.

Mr. Sims was a meat cutter, and had worked at Piggly Wiggly as well as the Krogerâ??s Grocery Store in Jacksonville. He was an avid history reader, and he enjoyed being with his grandchildren. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
