She was born in Malden on April 5, 1950, daughter of the late John and Rita Raftery. She grew up in Malden and attended Malden public schools.

Maureen was a licensed hairdresser and practiced in downtown Haverhill and North Andover. She was also a nanny for several children. She enjoyed mystery shows and movies, including Alfred Hitchcock, Murder She Wrote and Sherlock Holmes.

At the age of 25, she gave birth to her first child, Christian. Her second child, Nickolas arrived at the age of 28, and her third son, Michael at the age of 31. She loved her three boys and enjoyed attending all the activities they were interested in, including concerts and sports. She also enjoyed taking them on camping trips and to the beach.

Maureen really enjoyed watching her grandchildren. She would routinely spend days in the driveway drawing with chalk and playing with the kids in the yard.
