Maureen Corcoran Powers, of Sea Bright NJ, formerly of North Bergen NJ, sadly passed away on August 22, 2022 at the age 78.
Born in Queens, NY September 30, 1943, Maureen grew up in downtown Jersey City. She attended Saint Dominic’s Academy in Jersey City, obtained her BA from Jersey City State College, and her MA from Saint Peter’s University.
Maureen was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and teacher. She worked for over 20 years as a science teacher at her alma mater Saint Dominic’s Academy.
Maureen had a passion for being in nature – walking and gardening. She loved learning through reading and experiencing the world through traveling. She had a passion for cooking and great food. She enjoyed her daily crossword puzzles and kicking butt at Jeopardy. She was a rock you could always rely on to roll up her sleeves and help with whatever you needed. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Survived by her husband of 57 years, James P. Powers, her son Jim Powers and his wife Therese (nee Puso), and her daughters Nancy Hacker (nee Powers), and Kathleen Powers; granddaughters Katie Powers and her husband Callum Munro, Lily Kinsella, Ella Kinsella, and Fiona Powers; grandsons Mathew Powers and his wife Lorraine Lei, Jim Powers, and Brendan Powers; brothers Martin Corcoran and his wife Patricia (nee Beaugard), and Timothy Corcoran and his wife Norgie (nee Moran); sisters-in-laws Susan Corcoran (nee Parker) and Donna Bryan; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
She is predeceased in death by her parents Lillian and Harold Corcoran, as well as her brothers Harold Corcoran and his wife Rose Corcoran (nee Colterelli), Leonard Corcoran, and James Corcoran; son-in-law John Kinsella; sister-in-law Theresa Ammitzboll (nee Powers) and her husband Anker; and brother-in-law Denis Powers.

Maureen was an adamant supporter of PBS programming. She enjoyed watching Nature, NOVA, Great Performances, and Antiques Roadshow – just to name a few. She watched every day and donated monthly to help keep the lights on.
