We mourn the passing of a beloved member of our community, Mattie Ruth Davis. She drew her last breath on the tenth of June in the year 2023, leaving behind a legacy that will live on for generations to come. Mattie served&as a deaconess at Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Chesapeake until her health declined.&

Born on October 10th, 1933, Mattie saw the world evolve through decades of progress. With her warm smile, sharp wit and bright eyes, she made countless friends who remember her with admiration. Mattie was known as a kind-hearted person who always had time to listen and offer help. Her youthful spirit never left her even in her senior years.
Mattie was predeceased by her husband&Jasper L. Davis Sr., parents Horace and Mattie Davis, sister Ruby Williams and brothers Ernest (Bill) Davis and Abram Davis. She leaves to cherish her memories, 6 children, Phillip Moore, Sherry (Howard) Graves, Patricia Williams, Sheldon Davis, Wanda (Melvin) Jones, and Jasper L. Davis Jr. Mattie also leaves to mourn her brothers&Horace Jr., Vance and James Davis and her sister Essie Mae Moore along with her dear aunt Ara (Kit) Edwards as well as 26 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren 2 great great&grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins&and friends.&
Mattie Ruth Davis was more than an acquaintance; she was family to so many of us. Those fortunate enough to be part of Mattie’s life know that they were blessed with true friendship and unwavering support.

As we bid farewell to a great woman, let us remember with gratitude all that she accomplished during her tenure on earth – how much we admired and respected her – and be grateful that for as long as we knew her, she was an immense source of inspiration.

Rest in eternal peace, dear Mattie Ruth Davis. Your life has blessed us all, and your contributions will never be forgotten.
