Matthias Paul Larson, 27, passed away at his home on Sunday, September 12, 2021. He was born on January 20, 1994 and his first home was in Waukee. He and his family moved to West Des Moines, and Matthias graduated from West Des Moines schools. He attended DMACC, was a Dean’s List student, and won both a speech and poetry award while there.
Matthias wrote powerful, old-soul poems from a young age. He had a thirst for knowledge and history, a great memory, and had a passion for current events, including debating the issues of the day. He enjoyed rooting for the Chicago Bears and listening to the band Third Eye Blind among others.
He is survived by his parents, Dave and Jolene Larson of West Des Moines, siblings Alex of Ankeny, Tanya (Corey) Laird of Corvallis, Oregon, Zachary of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Maria (and fiancé Chris Roberts) of Ames, and Catherine (and boyfriend Jackson Froscheiser) of Ames. Also surviving are grandmothers Trudy Larson of Webster City and Rita Richards of Iowa Falls. He is preceded in death by grandfathers Rodney Larson and Jack Richards, and grandmother Onalee Richards.
Matthias will always be loved and never forgotten. Godspeed, Matthias, may the Angels greet you with open and loving arms.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 25th at 10:30 to 12:30, followed by a brief service and reception, all at Iles Westover Funeral Home at 6337 Hickman Road in Des Moines. A private burial will take place in the future. Memorial contributions may be made directly to the family or Westover Funeral Home, memorials will be used to honor Matthias’s memory or to MindSpring Mental Health Alliance(formally NAMI).
