Matthew T. McDavid, December 12, 1985 – December 1, 2015.
Matthew Travis McDavid, 29, of Belton, Texas passed away on Tues., Dec. 1 after a courageous 6-year battle with cancer. Matthew was a beloved son, brother and friend to all. A life-long resident of Temple/Belton, Matt graduated from Belton High School in 2004 and attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock. Since college Matt lived most of his adult life in San Rafael, California, where he worked at the Ritter Center, a resource for low-income and homeless families. Under the mentorship of Joseph Galindo, who loved Matt as his own son and for whom Matt affectionately called Grandpa, Matt did a variety of jobs including working in the food pantry and office.
Matt was also committed to fitness and worked as a personal trainer helping others achieve their fitness goals. Matt will be remembered for having a heart for helping others. Whether it was giving of his funds to someone he believed needed it more than he or stopping to pray with a friend or stranger in need, Matt was always there for others. During the past several years, Matt’s faith grew stronger. And now that Matt is in Heaven, family and friends are content in knowing that Matt is enjoying God’s peace that surpasses all understanding.
Matt will also be remembered for his sense of humor and being an avid lover of dogs. He loved comedies and often quoted lines from his favorite movies and television shows. And Matt took his role as big brother seriously, especially when it came to his sisters. He was loving and protective of them and in return, they adored Matt and loved spending time with him.
Matt is survived by his mother, Susan Sprawls McDavid of Belton; his father, Andy McDavid of Salado and wife Melissa; a brother, Jacob; and sisters Madeline, Ryann and Kamryn; and his maternal grandmother, Jean Sprawls of Beaumont. Preceding Matthew in death are his paternal grandparents, Jack and Claire McDavid; and his maternal grandfather, Aubrey Sprawls. Matt was blessed to have a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
