Matthew Francis Devine, 54, of Lafayette, died and was welcomed into Heaven December 25, 2021, after suffering a brain hemorrhage. He passed peacefully with his wife Pam and son Tommy by his side. Matt was born on August 1, 1967. He graduated from Central Catholic High School, Indiana State University, and the Indiana Police Academy. It was in Terre Haute where Matt met the love of his life, Pam Etling. They married and were blessed with Thomas Etling Devine on July 16, 1998. Matt always knew that he wanted to be a police officer and was sworn in with the Lafayette Police Department on November 7, 1994. Matt rose to the rank of detective and positively impacted countless lives before retiring from police work in 2018 to pursue a new role as a civilian with the City of Lafayette. When he wasn’t working, which was rare, Matt was spending time with his family or fishing for anything that would bite the end of his line. Matt will long be remembered by all who knew him as one of God’s kindest and most lovable human beings. He is survived by his wife Pam, his son Tommy, his parents Pat and Shary Devine, brothers Tim (Marta) of Shoreview, Minnesota and Martin (Kate) of Carmel, Indiana, and 34 adoring nieces and nephews.
