Matthew Donald Bircher was born on November 26, 1991, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was the youngest son of Russell and Loraine. Matthew passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2021, having lived a life too short. He was a kind, loving, giving person who would share anything he had with others and was always quick to offer a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Since moving to Canon City four years ago, he had made many amazing friends. He spent time with his friends doing the outdoor activities he so loved and sometimes just hanging out.

Matthew grew up in Palmer Lake, Colorado attending elementary school, middle school, and high school in the area. He took culinary courses at Pikes Peak Community College and attended Colorado Mountain College studying ski area operations. As a youngster, Matthew played many sports including football and baseball. He was also a Boy Scout for many years and was very proud to wear the uniform and to be involved in community activities to help others.

He loved the outdoors his whole life and any activity that involved being outside whether that be camping, hunting, fishing, hiking, snowboarding, tubing down the Arkansas River, riding his bike, or simply going for a walk. He especially enjoyed the times he spent with his dad when they went on weeklong hunting trips in the fall and fishing trips to Rampart Reservoir in the summer. He enjoyed taking vacations with the family when he was young, especially the trips to Las Vegas, Disneyland, and San Diego.

Matthew worked as a cook in restaurants in Monument, Denver, and Canon City. He was at home in the kitchen and his co-workers nicknamed him The Octopus because he handled so many tasks seamlessly at once. He liked to see people enjoy the food he made and took pride in his work. He had plans to start a food truck business and was working towards that goal.
