Matrice Hilliard was born to Mary and Moses Hilliard in Harlem, New York on May 28, 1956.  She was the third child in a family of five. She attended Brandis High School, before attending City College where she studied in the medical field.

In the late 80s Matrice started her career at Council Health Center in many various positions from Supervisor of front desk to Office Manager which she continued well into the 2000’s. When her time concluded at that job she then transitioned to Healthcare Education Project of 1199 SEIU and  Greater New York Hospital Association, which would become her sanctuary of a work place. She worked for the Healthcare Education Project (HEP) for 11 years, and took pride in her work ethics and relationships development. It was there where she acquired many lifelong friends that became family.  Although, her career undoubtedly gave her joy nothing superseded the joy she received from being a mother. Matrice had three children whom she loved unconditionally, Dameon Clark, Anthony Hilliard and Chanell Lewis. She showed her love through various ways such as working three jobs to send all her children to Catholic Schools and to foster their higher education. She was a hard working single mother who supported her children throughout challenges such as college and becoming parents of their own. If motherhood didn’t display her supernatural love becoming a grandmother did once her two sons gifted her with a tribe of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Although she loved and sacrifice for all three of her children the same, her greatest accomplishment was seeing her youngest daughter graduate from college in May of 2014.

Matrice will be remembered as the loving joyful woman who loved the simple things in life such as shopping, cooking and vacationing with her two best friends of over 30 years Stephanie Hopkins and Josephine Barr.  She was a great party planner, loved her friends, family, and was loyal and trustworthy. Her favorite holidays were Christmas and Thanksgiving where she took the time to share her love with others. Matrice was a special mom, grandmother, sister and friend.

Matrice now joins her mother and father Mary Lee Gant-Hilliard and Moses Hilliard, along with her sisters Mary Ann Hilliard-Bates and Yvonne M. Hilliard. And her aunt Susie Washington.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory: three children, Dameon Clark, Anthony Hilliard and Chanell Lewis and a daughter-in-law Jamila Hilliard, grandchildren: Dameon Clark II, Danielle Romero, Jada Romero, Matrice Clark, Anthony Nigel Hilliard, Amari June Hilliard, Aziya Hilliard, Jaela Banks and Jani Banks. Great grandchildren: Ariana Clark, Daniel Romero, Royal Romero, King Romero, and  Kylie Romero. She also leaves her brother Marlon Hilliard and three nieces Merlinda Hilliard and Keisha Barnett and Ebony Barnett. Along with one Godchild: Latayah Campbell and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and other relatives who resides all over the country.
