Maryann Karczewski nee Dudek, age 80, of Hammond, passed away Friday, August 25, 2017. Maryann was preceded in death by her beloved husband James “Big Jim” in 1988,  her son Jimmy on August 15th and parents Stanley and Ann Dudek.

Survived by her daughters: Christy Karczewski, Sandy (Jeff) Parsons, and Lynda Karczewski; grandchildren Ashley Crouch and Jeffery Parsons; siblings: Ray (Carol) Dudek, John (Sandy) Dudek and Patty (Steve) Crockett; sisters-in-law Patricia Hood, June Morin; brother-in-law Thomas (Rosalie) Karczewski; many nieces, nephews and cousins; her puppies: Lily, Ruby and Honey; kitties: Stanley, Frankie, and Cleo.

Maryann was a kind, loving spirit who rarely lost her temper and had a most generous heart. A woman of great faith Maryann prayed the rosary every day. She was employed as a Legal Secretary for the City of Hammond for 20 years and retired in 2004. An excellent typist, Maryann could type over 140 words per minute and also worked as a home typist for George C. Patrick. A gifted artist who knew no boundaries when it came to the medium, Maryann would paint in oil, watercolors, and pastels. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

A talented seamstress, Maryann sewed all the girls’ clothing and especially enjoyed creating holiday outfits, often making a matching dress for herself. Her fingers not only held brushes, sewing, and knitting needles to create but also found a home at the piano to fill the world with music. Lending her artistic touch to crafting, Maryann enjoyed creating Christmas crafts, especially Santas and her angels. Maryann simply loved angels and filled her home with them. Above all Maryann cherished the time spent with her loving family. Maryann and Big Jim were family-oriented. When the kids were younger they would take the family camping for two weeks every year, from Niagara Falls to Tennessee, Wisconsin, and all over the Midwest. Our loving mother, doting grandmother, dear sister, and good friend will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
