Mary Wanita Buck, 92, of Jacksonville, died Sunday, November 21, 2010, at her home.
She was born October 27, 1918, in Danvers, Illinois, McLean County to Mr. and Mrs. Fred L. and Eva Davis Cook. She married Oliver Henry Buck on December 28, 1940, and he preceded her in death on November 28, 1973.
She is survived by two sons, David L. Buck of Victor, MT, and James L. (wife Lucy) Buck of Jacksonville; one daughter, Nancy (deceased husband Reg) Upton of Jacksonville; four granddaughters, two grandsons, four great granddaughters, two great grandsons and one great-great grandson; two sisters, Elaine (husband Charles) Alexander of Topeka, KS and Fern (husband Joe) Hobbs of Chillicothe, MO; one brother, Fred L. (wife Sandy) Cook of Camdenton, MO; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Crowe, a niece, Janice Crowe, and a brother, Hugh Cook.
Mrs. Buck graduated from Triplett, MO High School in 1937. She moved to Illinois where she went to business college and worked in Bloomington. After her marriage to Oliver, they moved to Jacksonville where he was employed by School District #117. She had been employed in the office at Grace United Methodist Church, Illinois College and retired from MacMurray College after 25 years of service. She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, past Matron of Wilber Chapter Order of Eastern Star, past-president and 50-year member of Chapter IO, PEO. She was a charter volunteer of Woodhaven Hospice, and in June 1997 she received the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award by the Prairie Council on Aging in Jacksonville.
