Mary W. Harer, 81, of Mifflin Township, Jersey Shore, died Sunday, February 1, 2009 at The Meadows Assisted Living where she had been a resident for just over two months.
Mary’s husband, Mark T. Harer, died on October 19, 1977.
Mary was a lifelong member of the Salladasburg United Methodist Church and the Jeanette Thomas Sunday School Class.
Mary was a graduate of the Jersey Shore Area High School and Lycoming College. She retired as a school teacher in 1990 from the Jersey Shore Area School District, having taught second grade at the Salladasburg Elementary School for 23 years.
Mary was delighted in her family, her friends and her pets, and enjoyed her life on her Mifflin Township farm. After her family her greatest love was the community of Salladasburg. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Born October 26, 1927 in Peoria, IL, she was the daughter of George D. and Viola M. Payne Willits of Salladasburg where she spent her childhood from five years of age on.
Surviving are sons, Dr. Miles D. (Thao) of Alexandria, VA and Rev. Peter (Elizabeth) of Lewisburg; daughter, M. Ann (Philip) Zechman of Jersey Shore; four grandchildren; three step grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren an her beloved Australian shepherd, Dolly.
Mary was predeceased by a daughter, Kathleen Marie Harer in 1958.
