Mary Virginia Mitchum, 85
Mary Virginia Mitchum “Nan” joined her Savior on Sunday, February 14, 2021, in Okeechobee, Florida.
Mary was born in Deerfield Beach, Florida on February 11, 1936, to George Hobson and Willie Mae McCall. She married the love of her life, Lloyd Mitchum “Pop”, on June 5, 1955, in Deerfield Beach, Florida.
She began a career in nursing in 1970 and served the Okeechobee community faithfully through various positions in healthcare. She was also proud to be the recipient of the Frist Humanitarian Award through HCA and was passionate about her job. She loved those around her and cherished her time here on this earth.
Mary was a member of First Baptist Church for many years and served her community through her outreach at the Mission House. She enjoyed fellowship with others and celebrating God’s word.
She is survived by her children Cheri (Alan) Nelson, Steve (Grace) Mitchum, Donna (Olie) Hedrick; grandchildren, Justin (Leslie) Nelson, Amber (Joe) Soto, Megan (Ricky) Barnes, Brandi (David) Hernandez, Nicole (Cody) Hurst; great-grandchildren, Hailey (Jacob) Curtis, Beckham Nelson, Isabella Hernandez, Kippy Kisela, Ceyafkompe Cypress, Leddy Kisela, Everly Hurst, Gage Soto, David Hernandez, Zane Barnes, and Aspen Hurst; and great-great-grandchildren Anjel Curtis and Savannah Curtis. She was known as Aunt Mary and Nan to many others. She is preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Mitchum.
