Mary V. Stewart Girton, 86, formerly of Woodland Avenue, died Thursday, February 9, 2012, at the Williamsport Home following a lengthy illness.

Mary retired as a medical secretary in 1967 from the Williamsport Hospital after 16 years, graduated from Williamsport High School in 1943 and Rider College, Lawrenceville, NJ, in 1947. She was a lifelong member of Pine Street United Methodist Church where she had sang in the Chancel choir, and was involved with the United Methodist Women, Worship, Membership and Mission Commissions, Administrative Council, Church Historian when the church was destroyed by fire, served as a communion steward and had served on the board of the United Churches of Lycoming County.

Mary was a member of the Williamsport Music Club Federation, a life member of the Lycoming Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of Union Veterans, having had a Grandfather who served in the Civil War, American Legion Post 1 aux., a life member of the Clan Stewart Society in America, aux. to Baldwin II Commandery Knights Templar, Lycoming, Dauphin and Perry Counties and Shippensburg Historical Societies and the Alpha Social Club.

Born March 18, 1925 in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of Henry W. and Kathryn Smith Stewart.

Surviving are her husband of 63 years, John A. Girton; a nephew, Richard Stewart Houseal; and great-nephew, Joshua L. Houseal both of Mechanicsburg and a niece, Linda Kay Houseal of Harrisburg.

Mary was predeceased by a sister, Jean Stewart Houseal.
