Mary Therese “Terry” (Smith) Morse, of Norwich, died Saturday, October 19, 2013 after a brief illness. The daughter of Robert and Loretta (Thompson) Smith, she was born at Backus Hospital in Norwich on March 18, 1927. Her arrival that day was greeted with much excitement and fanfare, complete with newspaper coverage of the event, as she was officially the first baby to be born in their brand new maternity facility. She married William R. Morse in the Cathedral of St. Patrick on July 3, 1946. He predeceased her in April of 1992.
Her home and her family were most important in her life, where they spent summers camping at Hidden Acres Campground in Preston, making memories to last a lifetime. Her love of crocheting was shared with friends and family and also through the innumerable baby blankets which she created throughout the years that have been donated to infants in need. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Church and the Rosary Society.
Three sons survive her; William and wife Katie, of East Lyme, Wayne and wife Debbie of Norwich and Kevin of Preston, along with five grandchildren; Aaron, Amber, Wayne Jr., Jamie and Samantha and also three great grandchildren; Chloe, Caleb and Gail. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother; Robert Smith and a grandson; Rhett Morse.
Terry’s family would like to thank Orchard Grove Nursing Center, Dr. Dabdoub and Dr. Dhami for their wonderful and compassionate care to our mother and grandmother during this difficult time.
