It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Blanos – loving grandmother, mother and protector of all lucky enough to know her love. Mary passed from our world to the next surrounded by
family and love in her home on January 10, 2022.

Mary was born June 30, 1938, in Des Moines. She married her husband Neil Blanos May 9, 1958 and began raising a beautiful family with four amazing daughters: Jill (& Don) Kissell of Des Moines, Iowa; Ellie (& Billy) McElvogue of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; Cheryl (& Tom) Jones of Frankfort, Illinois; and Stephanie(& Tom) Richerme of Schererville Indian. She was also the adored grandmother of four lucky grandchildren: Josh (&Rachel) Jefferson of Eugene, Oregon; Neil (& Deann) Bitting of Des Moines, Iowa; Todd (& Sara) Bitting of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; and Tiffanie Richerme of Schererville, Indiana. Mary was also blessed with seven beautiful great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Neil and parents Gilbert and Nellie Thomas and siblings Margaret Sales and Larry Thomas.

Mary lived her early years in Des Moines and Pleasant Hill where she raised her four daughters. After the two oldest girls were married, and because of Neil’s career change, the family moved to Crete, Illinois where her two youngest daughters, Cheryl and Stephanie, later married and made homes of their own. Mary lived in Crete for over 30 years and after Neil passed away she returned to Pleasant Hill, Iowa where she spent her final years.

During life Mary loved animals, bird watching, bingo, slot machines, casinos, and board games but more than anything, she cherished spending time with her family. She was a homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother extraordinaire who always put her family above anything else! She was loved immensely and will be missed immeasurably. The world is better because she was a part of it, and she will always live on in our hearts.
