Mary Theresa “Miss Mary” Shea, 61, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully of natural causes at the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, April 19.
She was born Aug. 29, 1954, in Elkhart, to the late Franklin D. and Nora W. (Cress) Shea.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews, including niece Kathy (Bruce) Alwine Heim of New Carlisle. Also surviving is her extended and loving ADEC family, with whom she has been affiliated for the past 54 years.
She was preceded in death by siblings Rosie, Shirley, Mike and Larry Shea; her favorite aunt, Mary Bonfiglio; and favorite nephew “Chuckie Boy.”
Miss Mary’s life will be celebrated with a viewing at noon and a service at 1 p.m. Monday, April 25, at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart. Family friend Deaconess Andrea Delaney from the Christ the Lord Lutheran Church in Elgin, Ill., will officiate, and burial will follow in Rice cemetery in Elkhart.
Miss Mary’s gift to all was her sharing of love, hugs and smiles that would light up a room, but she also had a mischievous side as well and enjoyed playing good-natured tricks on everyone, like hiding things so well only she could find them. She was also an avid Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan, and every time she would hear their fight song, she would shout “Go Irish!!.” She also loved the color pink, and wore it beautifully.
