Mary T. Cook, 83, passed away on Friday May 2, 2014 at her home in Fortville. Mary was born on November 9, 1930 in Fairland, Indiana to Virgil and Florence (Weintraut) Tull.
She is survived by her daughter Deborah (Sills) Duclos a resident of Pennsylvania, two grandchildren Jessica Duclos Waite and her Husband Stephen Waite and Natalie (Duclos) Hackett and her husband Ian Hackett and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother John Tull and his wife Barbara and her sister Clara Fitzgerald and her husband Ken who reside in Florida and Louisiana respectively.
Mary was quite a personality, strong, determined, generous and extremely accomplished. She worked at Western Electric (1955 – 1968); owned and operated the Debutante Beauty Shop (1961 – 1965); owned and operated the Debonair Motel in McCordsville for 38 years (1966 – 2004); was the 1st Clerk Treasurer of the city of McCordsville plus was the Executive Director of the United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth Program for the Sovereign Grand Lodge Independent Order of Oddfellows from 1979 – 1994 and was interviewed by Katie Couric on the Today show on the occasion of her retirement.
Her many other accomplishments include: 51 year member of the Rebakahs (1963-2014); President, Rebekah Assembly; Past President RA IN; Sovereign Grand Lodge International Association of Rebekah Assemblies Youth Committee (6 years); Carrie Day Theta Rho Girls Club advisor (14 years); Member of Eastern Star Brightwood Chapter; Fraternal Order of Eagles; member of Women of the Moose; Member of the Republican Women of Hancock County. She will be greatly missed by many.
