Mary Catherine (Porter) Strome, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully at 83 with her family at her side on Friday, November 19, 2010. Mary is survived by her loving husband Bob of 57 years and their four daughters; Robin Shover, Beth (Bob) Hansen, Lisa (Steve) Hoshor and Erin (Wayne) Spiekerman; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mary was born in Indianapolis, IN on November 29, 1926 and grew up in Clinton, IN. A graduate of Purdue University, Mary met Bob and they wed on January 23, 1954. Mary and Bob raised their children in Sister Lakes, MI and moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1971. Mary received her Masters Degree in Education from ASU and taught reading, English and Arizona history for over 20 years in Paradise Valley School District. After retirement, with Bob, Mary enjoyed traveling, camping, water aerobics and camaraderie at Pueblo Norte Senior Living Community in Scottsdale. Most of all Mary cherished spending time with her husband, their daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchild. Mary was a strong woman of faith and her kindness always brought out the best in those around her. She will be greatly missed.
