Mary Alyce (McGrath) Sellers, daughter of Mary Veronica (Luttrell) and William Edmund McGrath, was born April 27, 1924 in Washington Township, Lucas County, Iowa. She passed from this life September 11, 2012 at the Lucas County Health Center in Chariton, Iowa at the age of 88 years.

Mary Alyce attended the Greenville County School and graduated from Chariton High School in 1940. She was employed from 1941 to 1948 as a secretary in the office of the Farmers Home Administration.

Mary Alyce was active in many community organization including the following: Lucas County Farm Bureau Woman’s Chairman and served on the 1967 Farm Bureau Woman’s State Program Committee, President of the Chariton Woman’s Club and Director and Board member of Iowa Federation of Woman’s Clubs. Mary Alyce also served on the Lucas County Extension Council and served as Secretary/Treasure of the Lucas County 4-H Achievement Show for several years. She was active in school activities and she was the PTA President of Van Allen School and Chariton PTA Council.

Mary Alyce is survived by sons, Tom Sellers and Joe (Cindy) Sellers of Chariton; step-granddaughter Katie Fiala of Des Moines; sister Margaret Scieszinski of Des Moines; three nieces, Anne Keen of O’Fallon, Missouri, Jane and Teresa Scieszinski of Windsor Heights; two nephews, John Sellers of Corydon and Patrick Sellers of Orem, Utah; two sisters-in-law, Carrie Jonach and Clara Miner of Sugar City, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and an infant son.
