Mary Salome “Sally” Diaz (Castillo) Was called to our Lord on Friday, August 26, 2022 at the age of 87, at her home in Ventura. Preceded in death her husband of 35 years Gilbert Diaz. Mary was born on May 26, 1935 to Felipe and Altagracia Castillo in Hasty, Colorado. Mary “Sally” was a lifetime resident of Ventura, CA. Growing up in Tortilla Flats. She was on the Tortilla Flats Committee to keep the history alive. She was a mentor and historian to Tortilla Flats. Mary loved living in the Ventura Avenue Area. That was home for her.
Mary worked at DeAnza Middle School as the Cafeteria Manager for 27 years. The Cafeteria was dedicated to her with an honorary plaque located inside the Cafeteria. She also worked at Gutierrez Drive-In. Mary “Sally” remembered everyone that she met in her life one way or another and loved and respected everyone of them.
Mary is survived by her Sister Grace Gutierrez, her only child Carlo Diaz and wife Monica Diaz, Granddaughter Rosemary Diaz, Grandson’s, Carlo Diaz Jr. and Jesse Diaz. Her adopted Granddaughter Trinity Mendoza. Great Granddaughters, Kira Martin, Giselle Diaz and Gianna Diaz and a number of Nephews and Nieces.
