DURHAM- Mrs. Mary Ruth Hux Hocutt, 93, passed away on November 10, 2021 and is now standing in amazement at her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Mrs. Hocutt was born April 24, 1928 and to the late Charlie and Katie Hux. She was the youngest sibling of the Hux household.

In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Coy Henderson Hocutt, Jr; her brothers, Charles E. Hux, Jr. (Beatrice) and Joseph Hux (Lee); grandson, Michael D. Hocutt; and daughter-in-law, Shirley Hudson Hocutt.

Mary is survived by her children, Marsha C. Hocutt; Coy David Hocutt (Anya), and Meloney A. Williams (Mark); her grandchildren, Jonathan, Philip, Courtney, and Christopher; as well as many special nieces and nephews.

Back in 1948, an Evangelist named Welcome Detweiler came to town. Mary and Coy went to hear this evangelist and both of their lives were changed. They both came to know the Lord at that meeting. From that day forward Mary was steadfast in serving Jesus and growing in her faith. The Lord was the center of her life. She served Him with her whole heart and would encourage others to follow Jesus.

They attended the Gospel Center for 50+ years and over the past 20 years, Mary has been attending Northgate Chapel. She loved singing in the church choir and working with the AWANA program, where she was an Awana leader for 30+ years. Mary was a Sunday School teacher, she would help with the Youth meetings, and was always at church for all occasions.

In life, Mary loved to help people. She would go out of her way to pick up people for church services and would help prepare meals for those services. She deeply cared for her family and will be greatly missed by all.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the Home Instead Senior Care Staff and to Marci Andersen and Brenda Tewell.
