Mrs. McClelland, the mother of William McClelland, peacefully passed away at a local hospital. Her Wake and Viewing is Thursday, June 20th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Mortuary.

Mary Odis McClelland was born on July 26, 1944 in Newton County, MS. She was the fourth of six children and the baby girl born to the union of the late Reverend L.A. Heard and Ella Heard. The family moved to St. Louis, MO in 1945, where Mary received her formal education, graduating from Hadley Tech High School.

In 1965, Mary united in marriage with Lawrence McClelland, Jr. Their union was blessed with a son, William Neal McClelland. Lawrence preceded her in death in 1981.

In June of 1975, Mary moved to Detroit, MI where she obtained her Associate of Science Degree as a Hospital Lab Technician.

In December of 1983, Mary moved to San Diego, CA.

Since then, Mary enjoyed retirement, interacting with family and friends via email and acting as a strong foundation for her family, to whom she was dedicated and loved unconditionally.

She was known by all as a strong, God fearing woman who worked hard to instill values of determination, pride and integrity in everyone she touched. She was stern but filled with an abundance of love and kindness.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Shelby Atkins and a brother, James Heard.

Mary departed this life on Thursday, June 13, 2013 after several months of chronic illness. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, William; one sister, Dorothy Watson (Frank); two brothers, Andrew Heard (Magdalene) and Johnnie Heard; five grandchildren, Kenneth, Victoria, Kyra, Tiffany and Taylor and a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will cherish her memory.
