Mary Newport Taylor, 76, of 12 Starling Avenue, Martinsville died Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Morehead Memorial Hospital, Eden, NC. She was born on February 17, 1935 in Danville, VA to the late John Osborne Taylor and Edith Vernon Anson Taylor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Elena Boaz Robertson and Edith Vernon Taylor. She was a native of Martinsville and a writer of poetry, fiction, and music and was an independent piano teacher for over forty years. She attended Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore and was a member of the Piedmont Music Teachers Association, affiliated with the state and national associations. She and her sister, Edith, were choir members and soloists at Christ Episcopal Church where their grandfather, the Reverend Alfred W. Anson, was Rector for more than twenty years. Ms. Taylor is survived by two nephews, Noel Boaz and Ben Robertson; a niece, Katherine Robertson and seven great nieces and nephews.
