Mary Nell Haggerty, 79, of Jacksonville, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at Barton W. Stone Home in Jacksonville.

She was born Feb. 5, 1931, in Danville, AR, the daughter of Clarence H. and Mary Cleddie Light Harp. She married Eugene A. “Gene” Haggerty on June 25, 1950, in Canton, IL, and he survives.

She is also survived by three children, Carolyn K. Haggerty of Jacksonville, Cindy (Jamie) Boydston of Wildwood, MO, and Jeff (Lesa) Haggerty of Jacksonville; six grandchildren, Jaime Newcomb and Jennifer Newcomb, both of St. Louis, Brian Baker of Dallas, TX, Kelsey Boydston of Wildwood, MO, and Drew Haggerty and Ashley Haggerty, both of Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Harp (surviving wife Beverly of Los Gatos, CA).

Mrs. Haggerty was a 1949 graduate of Canton High School. In 1958 she and her husband founded Rid-All Pest Control Company in Jacksonville, where she served as Office Manager until her retirement in 1992.

During that time she also served as Librarian for the Illinois Pest Control Association. She was a longtime active member of Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, serving in numerous capacities including organist. In 2007, she became a resident of Modern Care Nursing Center and later Barton W. Stone Home. She had served as President of the Resident’s Council at both nursing homes. She enjoyed the relationships she developed at both facilities.

Mary Nell also enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing. She especially loved spending time with her family.
