Mary Ruth Miller, 84, went home to be with her Lord, Sunday, April 15, 2007. She was a Christian woman, quiet natured, yet very spry and witty. Born in Armstrong, IL on March 23, 1923 to Charles and Mary Ann Booher, she met John R. Miller from Enfield, IL, during WW II, and they married on March 10, 1943. Mary Ruth and John have two children, John Patrick Miller and Janet Lynn (nee Miller) LaLone. Mary Ruth had a good sense of humor and always waited for the chance to tell funny stories.
Although shy, she took in conversations and then would respond with something that would reel in the laughter. She was a homemaker most of her life, enjoying cooking, sewing, politics, country western and gospel music and reading the daily newspaper, sometimes staying up all night to cut out articles of interest for her family. She worked several years during World War II as a clerk typist. Sunday was her favorite day. It was the Lord’s day and the day when her family would call. She loved to talk on the phone and write and receive letters. Mary was devoted to her husband, John, for 64 years, her two children, John Pat and Janet Lynn, and her granddaughter, Rebecca Lynn Miller.
Mary Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary Ann (Obenland) Booher, two brothers, Charles Booher and Harold Booher. She is survived by her husband, John R. Miller, brothers Glen (Jane) Booher of Pitcairn, PA, Lester Booher of Armstrong, IL, two sisters, Louise (Charles) Cannon of Armstrong, IL and Ruby (Ewell) Winnett of Livonia, MI. Mary is also survived by her son, John Patrick Miller of Lebanon, IL, and Janet Lynn (Jim) LaLone of Abilene, TX, one granddaughter, Rebecca Lynn Miller of Belleville, daughter-in-law, Mary E. Miller of Belleville, IL, many nieces and nephews and many, many dear friends.
The family wishes to extend a very special “Thank You” to the staff and caregivers of Cedar Ridge nursing home for taking such good care of Mary Ruth during her stay there. Their concern and love of Mary Ruth will not be forgotten and is very much appreciated. The family also wishes to extend a very special “Thank You” to Pastors Kent and Kathy-King Nobles of First United Methodist Church for caring so much for Mary Ruth and our whole family.
