Mary (Panioto) Melluzzo, 98, of Old Lyme, her Shangri La, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2014 at her home. She was the beloved wife of the late Salvatore A. Melluzzo for 41 years. Born in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Natalie (Pappalardo) Panioto. She was formerly employed as a seamstress at the Lombardi Brothers in Hartford, retired from Royal Typerwriter Co. after 25 years, worked as Owner and Partner with her husband at Anthony’s Bakery of Old Lyme and lastly at Shalett Cleaners of Old Lyme until the age of 83. A beloved mother and grandmother, she leaves her son Dennis Melluzzo and his wife Valerie of Newington, her daughter Elaine Mathiason and her husband Howard of ME, her daughter-in-law June Melluzzo, her grandchildren, Alicia Melluzzo, Paul Melluzzo, Brian Melluzzo, Natalina Mathiason, Jacob and his wife Jessica Mathiason, six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She also leaves her sister Josephine DiMauro of Rocky Hill and 12 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Raymond A. Melluzzo, grandson Frank Melluzzo, great grandson Jacob Elijah Mathiason, Jr., brother and sister-in-law Sebastian and Christina Panioto, brother-in-law, Sebastian DiMauro, and nephew Christopher Panioto. Her family would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Terrance Doherty and her home aide, Linda Epps, for the care, compassion and companionship this past year.
