Mary Monica Southwell, 87, of Galesburg, died at 1:10 a.m. on Monday, May 03, 2010 at Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg.

Mary was born on June 27, 1922 in Clinton, IA the daughter, of Thomas J. and Agnes Marie Mahoney Leonard.  She married Robert M. Southwell on September 15, 1951 in Clinton, IA.  Surviving Mary is a son, Robert (Stormy) Southwell of Grey Bull, WY; a daughter, Cynthia (Danny) Allen of Galesburg; a sister, Janice (David) Wilkerson of Coralville, IA; 9 grandchildren, Danny Allen, Jr. of Galesburg, Melissa (Mark) Serio of Kennewick, WA, Rusty (Tonya) Allen of Lake Bracken, Jeffrey Allen with whom Mary shared the same birthday of Knoxville, Dennis (Leann) Southwell of Peoria, David Southwell of Galesburg, Melanie (Bill) Jackson of Ft. Collins, CO, Mary Ann (Ken) Moore of Lyman, NE, and Bobbie Jo Southwell Bayard, NE; and 12 great grandchildren.  Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Georgia Crowl of Galesburg and Edith Southwell of Horseshoe Bend, AR; and a daughter-in-law, Kathy Southwell-Bradford.  Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Robert of October 13, 1980; two sons, Dennis in 1997 and Thomas in 2006; and a brother, Gerald T. Leonard.

Mary had attended Mount St. Clair College in Clinton, IA. She was a homemaker.  Mary was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and had recently been attending Corpus Christi Catholic Church with her family.  She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society.  Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.  Mary enjoyed having fun.  She loved camping and fishing.  She loved to dance, especially to “Proud Mary” and “Kansas City.”  She enjoyed cookouts with her family and friends, where she was known to enjoy a beer.
