Mary M. Riffey, 95, of Jacksonville, IL died Monday, February 24, 2014 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.

She was born October 2, 1918 in Naples, IL, the daughter of Harry and Jessie Tooley Hyatt. She married Francis Riffey on June 25, 1961 in Virden, IL and he survives.

She is also survived by a daughter, Cheryle Parker (husband, Dick) of Marshall; a step daughter, Linda Witherspoon of Irving, TX; three grandchildren, Reid Parker of Decatur, GA, Paige Salazar (husband, Melesio) of Plainfield, and Mike Shaw (wife, Nicole) of St. Peters, MO; three great grandchildren, Isa, Lexi and Eva Salazar; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by a son, Robert Cogswell and four brothers, Melvin, Amiel, Milton and Francis Hyatt.

Mrs. Riffey was employed many years as a sales clerk for Deppe’s in downtown Jacksonville prior to her retirement. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and the church’s United Methodist Women and Mary-Martha Circle. Along with her husband, Mary logged thousands of miles touring the country on their motorcycle.
