Mary M. Ransom ( Darling ) 86November 21, 1934- May 27, 2021Mary M. Ransom passed away peacefully at home on May 27, 2021 surrounded by many of her “favorites”. Mary, also known as “Mother Mary” was born on November 21, 1934 in Winsted, Ct to George and Helen Darling. She was the beloved wife for 45 years to the late Leonard C. Ransom. Mary and Lenny raised four children in their home that later became West Hartland’s Post Office. Mary worked as the Postmaster of West Harland from 1961 to 1985. She then transferred to the East Hartland Post Office where she worked tirelessly until she retired. Mary dedicated her time and volunteered as Registrar of Voters from 2009 to 2012, Deputy Registrar of Voters from 2012-2020 and served as an ongoing member of the Seniors and Commission on Aging. She continued to volunteer her time and served on the Hartland Nursing Committee, which was once organized in Hartland. Mary was an avid knitter, enjoyed baking delicious cookies with her family, and had a deep love of novels. Spending time with family was important to Mary. She loved to travel with her family, especially to the casino. Mary traveled to Australia, China, Puerto Ricco, as well as many states within the U.S. She was a true inspiration to anyone who crossed her path. Mary loved unconditionally and accepted everyone into her loving heart. If everyone could be a little bit like Mary the world would be a more peaceful place. Mary is survived by her sister Margaret (Maggie) Ciferri of LaBelle, Florida, her son Carlton L. Ransom of Torrington, her son Alan G. Ransom and his wife Jeannie of Oak Hall, Virginia, her daughter Linda M. Bennett-Leib of West Hartland, and her son Edward P. Ransom of West Hartland. Mary was blessed to share in the lives of her “favorite” 15 Grandchildren and their spouses and 14 “favorite” Great Grandchildren. She also leaves behind a special cousin, Charles Kehoe of South Windsor, many nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends whom she had memorable adventures with. Mary was predeceased by her sister, Martha Jean Darling of Torrington, CT, brother-in-law, Roderick Ciferri of LaBelle, Florida, her brother George and sister-in-law Dolores Darling of Poughkeepsie, New York, her son-in-law Kevin J. Bennett, her son-in-law John (Jackie) C. Leib, and her daughter-in-law Rose Pierce.“God looked around his garden and found an empty space. Then he looked down upon this earth and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful. He only takes the best.
