Mary M. DelVecchio, age 86, formerly of Rome and recently residing in Sherrill, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 2, 2021, in Oneida Health Hospital.
Mary was born on September 15, 1934 in Rome, NY, the daughter of Michael and Margaret Tucci Rossi. She was united in marriage in 1951 to Frank L. DelVecchio, who passed away on May 29, 2013. She began her New York State employment in August of 1976 at the former Rome Developmental Center, and continued to work in many other New York State care facilities throughout her thirty-six year career until ultimately retiring at seventy-seven years old.
Mary was a compassionate, loving, and unselfish mother and wife who raised four children who will continue to honor her memory. She thought about others before herself, cherished her religious beliefs, and lived for her family and loving friends. Her life was filled with happiness and she was constantly surrounded by people who loved and adored her.
Surviving are Mary’s four children and two sons-in-law; a daughter Patricia DelVecchio of Rome; a son Frank DelVecchio Jr. of Virginia; a daughter Sharon (Joseph) Gualtieri of Rome; and a daughter Dena (Randal) Reader of Sherrill; countless grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Patrick and Mary Rossi of Virginia, and Michael Rossi Jr. of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and four sisters, Theresa Hastings, Lucy Taylor, Mary Calutti, and Delores Shlotzhauer, and two brothers, Frank Rossi Sr. and Anthony Rossi.
The family wishes to extend a thank you to the staff at Oneida Health Hospital and the EMT’s and emergency response personnel that cared for Mary for their professionalism and compassion. A very special thank you goes to Dr. Jennifer Cesana of Rome and her staff who provided Mary with excellent care and went above and beyond in their duties making Mary feel like she was much more than just a patient in their practice.
