Mary L. Delgado passed away peacefully on August 17, 2022, at the age of 96 and began her journey home.

Mary was born on January 25, 1926, in Riverhead, New York and was a resident of Norwich most of her life. She was the loving daughter of Julia (James) Parrish and Jefferson Ellis Parrish, Sr., dear sister Edna (Parrish) Randall, Dollie (Parrish) Dunston, Elizabeth Parrish, Irene (Parrish) Robinson, Arlene (Parrish) Jackson, Alice Parrish, Jefferson Parrish Jr., and Luther Parrish; all who preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by her granddaughter Nikia Green.

She married Frank A. Delgado on April 26, 1947, and they were married for 49 years, until his death on April 11, 1996. Frank and his brother-in-law called her “Speed”,

Frank and his brothers formed a quartet known as The Delgado Brothers; he later formed the Frank Delgado Quintet.  Mary enjoyed attending the Band’s performances; however, her favorite male vocalist was Jazz and Pop singer Billy Eckstine.

Mary was a devoted wife and mother first and foremost. She treasured her children Cheryl (Delgado) Kennedy of San Diego, CA, and Frances (Delgado) Green of Taftville, CT. and embraced every moment with them. Son-in-law Harold Green and sister-in-law Anna Parrish also survive her.

She especially loved her role as grandmother to Jason Hailey; Kevin Greene; Lamar Kennedy; DeJon Kennedy; Shavar Kennedy; Shenise Green; and was also blessed with 17 great grandchildren.

Mary is survived by family and friends and many nieces and nephews who referred to her
as “Aunt Marie”.

Mary was compassionate, gracious, kindhearted, loving, nurturing, and witty. She was a person who always put everyone else before herself.

The wonderful memories we shared with her will keep her “Forever in our Hearts”.
