In 1960 Mary and Lambert started a family clothing and shoe store, The Toggery Shop, located on Route 116 in the heart of Metamora, which they operated for 18 years. During that time Mary was active in the Metamora Women’s Club as a Charter Member, the Metamora Businessmen’s Association, and later was the first woman elected to the Metamora Village Board. After closing The Toggery Shop in 1978, she became a real estate agent in 1979 joining Jim Maloof Realtor through to her 1999 retirement. She was a woman ahead of her time: owning her own business and working while raising her four children.
