Mary Louise Jordan, also affectionately known as “Lulu” and “Weezy”, daughter of the late Clyde Monroe Jordan and Edna Foushee Jordan, was born on October 6, 1929 in Durham County and departed this life on Sunday, December 16, 2018. While she lived for a short time in Newark, NJ, she lived most of her life in Siler City, NC. She attended Chatham County Schools and worked as a textile worker for many years, retiring from Burlington Industries.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters: Pauline Jordan, Edna DeGraffenreidt, Earnestine Wilhite, Mary Siler and Helen Jordan; and one grandson, Terrance Jordan.
She leaves to mourn her memory: five children, Thomas Earl Jordan (Etta) of Pittsboro, NC, Larry Donnell Jordan (Diane) of Layton, Utah, Pamela Alston (Steve) of Greensboro, NC, Gwendolyn Jordan of Durham, NC and Herbert Jordan (Carla) of Siler City, NC; two brothers, Robert Jordan (Bernice) and Clarence Jordan (Blondean); one sister, Marie McNeill; eight grandchildren, Chucky Jordan, Nicole Leonard, Tonnelle Jordan Miller, Tavarus Alston, Dalmonta Alston, Anthony Reisch, Tristan Warren and Chad Goins; numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends, including her great-nephew, Greg Phillips, who she thought of as a grandson.
She joined Jordan Grove AME Zion Church at an early age and was an active member. Throughout the church community she was known for her cooking skills, especially her delicious cakes, and could always be counted on to bake cakes for church functions. It was affectionately said that “she might be late for a church function but members would be waiting for her to arrive with a warm cake”.
She took pride in dressing well, from her head to her toes. Her clothes had to look just right and her hair had to be fixed. Up until it was too difficult for her to get around, she insisted on going to the salon to get her hair done regularly, otherwise someone was going to have a bad day! This, along with her feisty personality, are just some of the things that she will fondly be remembered for.
In loving memory
of
Mary Louise Jordan
When I am gone, release me, let me go. I have so many things to see and do. You mustn’t tie yourself to me with tears. Be happy that we had so many years. I gave you my love. You can only guess how much you gave to me in happiness. I thank you for the love you each have shown, but it is time I travel on alone. So grieve awhile for me, if grieve you must, then let your grief be comforted by trust. It is only for awhile that we must be apart, so bless the memories within your heart. I won’t be far away, for life goes on. So if you need me, call and I will come. Though you can’t see me or touch me, I’ll be near, and if you listen with your heart, you’ll hear all of my love around you, soft and clear.
