Surrounded by loved ones, Mary Louise Fox Albano passed away to her eternal home in heaven on October 22, 2021 at the age of 94. In her last days, she was cared for by the kind and compassionate staff on the Rehabilitation Floor at Masonic Village in Burlington. Born in a farmhouse in Quakertown, PA on the 4th of July, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Rachel Fox.
She was the second youngest of eleven children, all who had predeceased her. Mary attended a one-room schoolhouse and graduated from Quakertown High School. She earned her college degree in Business Education from Bloomsburg State Teachers College, where she met her husband Angelo Albano (Ang). Ang was the quarterback on the football team, and so began her love for him and the game of football. Mary and Ang were married for 65 years until his passing in 2014.
Mary was a devoted wife and caring mother of four children. As her children grew older, Mary often worked as a substitute teacher at both Burlington City and Burlington Township High School. Mary was a longtime resident of Burlington Township. She and her husband spent their summers on Long Beach Island where they ran multiple businesses, such as Tumbletown Trampoline Center, The Islander and several rental properties, with their dear friends Tom and Olga Tofaute and Bill and Mona Lee Burr.
In their retirement, they enjoyed many winters in Englewood, Florida, where Mary loved playing bocce. For many years Mary volunteered at Memorial Hospital of Burlington County in the women’s auxiliary and as the leader of the Candy Stripers. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Burlington and also active in the United Church of Surf City. Many were the recipients of her delicious banana nut bread and pizzelles or one of her beautifully crafted counted cross-stitch pieces. Mary will be remembered for her laugh, her spunk, and her love of football. She was no stranger to a set of bleachers.
She loved rooting on her teams – Burlington City High School football (coached by her late husband Ang), Burlington City High School basketball (coached by family friend, the late Bill Burr), and her beloved Eagles! For many years Mary was an Eagles season ticket holder and showed her team spirit by proudly wearing her Eagles gear. She was ecstatic when they won the Super Bowl in 2018. In the past several years, you could find Mary cheering on the Cherokee High School girls basketball team (coached by her son-in-law Ron Powell).
Mary is survived by four children, Patricia Manzi (Lou), Mary Kay Comegys, John Albano (Joy), and Joanne Powell (Ron); five grandchildren, Katie Comegys Grady (Jay), Kelli Comegys (James Whall), Jill Albano, Lauren Powell Raudenbush (Matt), and Ryan Powell; one great-grandchild, Amaya Grady; sisters-in law and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by very close family friends, Rosemarie Serlenga, Candie Burr and Mike Tofaute, who all looked out for her and enjoyed spending time with her. She would await Candie’s call after every Eagles touchdown and win to sing the Eagles Fight Song together.
