Mary Louise Laubscher Cummins, 88 of Newnan, passed away Sunday, January 7 , 2018 at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. Mary was born May 20, 1929 in Alma, Michigan to the late Fred & Josephine Laubscher. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Dan Cummins, and her siblings, Betty and Max. Mary had a lifelong love of Boston Terriers that began while growing up in Alma, and continued throughout her life with Laddie, Sparkie, and Kodi. In recent years, Mary also spent her days delighting at the sight of hummingbirds gathering at her feeders, and studying their annual comings and goings. She read books on hummingbirds and learned about their migration to and from Mexico and knew exactly when they would show up at her house, and how many months they would visit her until returning the following year. She was a tall, thin, pretty green-eyed redhead who excelled in high school basketball. Mary was later known for her talents in bowling, and several scouts tried to recruit her to bowl professionally, but she was always dedicated to family. Her life was most fulfilled when she was caring for children, always making certain each child knew they were loved. After her daughter Cherie had children, Mary moved to California so she could be a constant in the life of her grandchildren, and she was a loving caretaker for 2 families with children. Years later when her son Scott had a child, she moved to Georgia to be near her grandson during his formative years. In recent months she planned to moved back to California to be with her great-granddaughters, and she will be with them in spirit. Babies and children were the joy of her life. She loved watching all of them grow and loved nurturing them. Her brightest smiles were when she talked about her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. She was a proud Mom, Grandma and Nana! Mary’ s surviving family includes daughter Cherie (Jim) Herold of Newport Beach, CA; son, D. Scott (Michelle) Cummins of Newnan; grandchildren, Mary Christen (Scott) Herold Sims, Daniel James Herold, John Cummins; great-granddaughters, Joselyn & Kate Sims; and devoted caregiver, Frances Amey.
