Mary Louise Haupert Cody, age 83, died peacefully in her sleep at The Denver Hospice, Denver, Colorado on Saturday, January 19, 2019.
Born on October 15, 1935 near Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Maurice Haupert and Rose Groth Haupert. Mary Lou graduated from Shrine Catholic High School in 1953. After graduation, she joined the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati (Ohio), where she obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. Post completion, she traveled to Peru, where she provided nursing care to the Aymara people of the altiplano (high Andean plateau) around Lake Titicaca, in southern Peru.
In the late 1960’s, Mary Lou left the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati, and returned to the United States. She eventually settled in Colorado, where she continued her career in nursing, in various capacities, including Pediatrics, as one of the founding Pediatric Nurse Practitioners in the State of Colorado.
