Mary Lou Owens of Burlington died peacefully on September 15, 2018. She was 90 years old. Mary Lou lived a full life, always surrounded by family, friends, children and animals. She not only raised her own four children, but also raised a foster-son and a granddaughter.
Love, patience and a great sense of humor were the tools of her trade. Her passion for animals meant a house full of pets, in addition to the children. That passion fueled Mary Lou’s hard work toward establishing the first Burlington County Animal Shelter and also led to her working as a tireless volunteer for the Animal Welfare Association. When Mary Lou wasn’t chasing her own children, she worked for the City of Burlington as a school crossing guard and later, worked for many years as a school bus driver where she freely shared her love with her daily passengers.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents: Casper and Maizie Moore; and her dear sister, Dorothy (Moore) Mercuri. Mary Lou is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, James; her four children: Neil (Diane), Linda Shuey (Ken), Brian (Susan) and Kevin; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
