Mary Lou Loudon passed on from our lives on Saturday, May 12, 2012 to be at peace and rest in her Eternal Life. Born Mary Lucille Haessly in Salem, Ohio on September 21, 1929, she was the 3rd of four children, born to Arthur Leo and Mae (Gallagher) Haessly. Mary Lou will be deeply missed by her two sisters, Donna Rose Mort of Sharon, Pa; Marjorie Ann Brubeck of Baltimore, Md; and her brother William John Haessly of Staunton, Va. A resident of Salem, Ohio for most of her life, Mary Lou attended St. Paul’s Catholic School and was a graduate of Salem High School (1947), where she was a vocalist and majorette with the marching band. She performed with the Tom Williams Orchestra in high school and was a member of the “Sub-Debs” where she encountered some of her dearest, lifelong friends. She continued this early love of music and the arts throughout her life. She met and married the love of her life, Henry Ford Loudon, and wed in1949. Henry preceded her in death in 1988, after 39 years of marital bliss. Together, they lived a beautiful life with their family of seven children; Timothy (Barb) Loudon of Salem; Henry (Deb) Loudon of Salem; Krista (Ben) Suffron of Columbus, OH; Linda Haller of Dublin, OH; Laura (Dave) Nestic of Salem; Marcia (Mike) Cope of Lakewood, CO; and Lisa Willaman of New Middletown, OH. “Grandma Lu” was devoted to her family and delighted in watching her 17 grandchildren and her 3 great grandchildren grow up and thrive. She loved and guided all of her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews by example with her strong faith and gratitude for life’s blessings. Mary Lou will always be remembered to those that knew her as a beautiful, kind, generous woman who radiated warmth, positivity, humor, compassion for others and love. Throughout her life, Mary Lou was a deeply religious person who graciously gave to her family, friends, community and church. She was a member of St. Philip Neri Church in Dungannon, Ohio where she taught CCD and was later a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church where she served on the Board of St. Paul School and Parish Council. She was also a leader of the St. Paul Renew Group. She shared her time as a volunteer for A.I.D. for 30 years, helping those in need. She was involved as a member and board member of the YWCA, and was a Business Partner, with her adoring husband, where she worked and built a family business, Loudon Ford Lincoln Mercury beginning in Hanoverton and later Salem, while raising their seven children. After suffering what she called a “stroke of bad luck”, she was dearly cared for by her family, Visiting Angels and staff of Blossom Nursing Center. While her life was afflicted, it was not without love and joy. Her struggle became too much to bear and she quietly passed on and rests in the peace of Eternal Life.
