Miss Mary Lou “Lou” Hollinger, 70, of Goshen, passed away peacefully at the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart on Tuesday, Mar. 12, 2019. She had been in ill health.

She was born in Goshen on Apr. 13, 1948 to the late Harley and Romayne (Cripe) Hollinger and is also preceded in death by her siblings Geraldine, Marjorie, Glen and Richard.

She was a beloved part of the ADEC family since 1977. She lived in a group home in Bristol for many years, and for the last 13 years she lived in a group home in Bridlewood Estates in Goshen. Several of Mary Lou’s housemates have been with her since 1977.

Mary Lou loved to collect stuffed animals, dolls, purses, and lots of beads. She enjoyed making jewelry, and she enjoyed sewing. She enjoyed vintage TV shows from the 50’s -70’s, and Elvis. She was an avid fan of Lucille Ball, and she has enjoyed watching I Love Lucy, especially in recent months. She liked shopping for bargains at Goodwill and going on double dates with her longtime friends including Keith Perry, who precedes her. She enjoyed her coffee, was a big fan of cheese but she had a strong aversion to chicken. Her staff always helped her make an alternative meal when chicken was on the menu!

Mary Lou, who went by Marylou or simply Lou, was a much loved lady. She was very relational, and she often used terms of affection for her friends. She could also be outspoken and didn’t hesitate to let you know when she was not pleased. She was loved all the more for her ways. Marylou loved her family, and talked of them often; long after they were deceased.
