Mary Lou Belzer Fuller, 86, of Jacksonville, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018, at Passavant Area Hospital. She was born Sept. 15, 1932, in Jacksonville, the daughter of James E. and Lenore Pearson Belzer.

She is survived by her son, Mark (Debra) Belzer of Jacksonville; her granddaughter, Julie Cerda of Georgia; one grandson, Benjamin Belzer of Springfield; great-granddaughters, Alaina and Aaliyah both of Georgia; sister, Virginia (J.R.) Davidsmeyer of Jacksonville; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Margaret “Peggy” Zimmerman, and Shirley (Don) Houghman.

Mary Lou was baptized at Brooklyn Methodist Church and attended school in Jacksonville, graduating from Jacksonville High School. Mary Lou had a strong work ethic and worked as a switchboard operator for nearly ten years before moving to East Alton. She worked in quality control at Olin Mathiesen for thirty years and then returned to live near family and friends in Woodson and Jacksonville. She was a member of the Moose and a past member of the VFW Auxiliary.

She enjoyed traveling, fishing, cooking, watching Cardinal baseball games, listening to her favorite talk shows on the radio, keeping up and discussing politics, and most of all, spending time with her family and friends. She loved baking cookies with her grandchildren and nieces. Mary Lou also loved cats and was known to take care of those who didn’t have a home.
