Mary A. (Bender) Lorden, 86, of Peru, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2020 at her home.

Mary was born May 13, 1933 in Chicago to George and Barbara Ann (Weimer) Bender. She married James P. Lorden on June 7, 1952 in Chicago. He preceded her in death on November 8, 1997. She worked at Wal-Mart for 30 years. Her Catholic faith was very important to her, and she was a member of Saint Mary’s Church, Peru.

She was a hardworking, loving, giving, classy woman who made everyone feel welcome in her home. She taught her children the meaning of family, patience and love. She could cook for 11, have a clean house and kick up her heels dancing with our father. She was magic. She was a gift. She was our beloved mom.

Surviving are her children, James (Connie) Lorden of Peru, Michael (Margo) Lorden of Spring Valley, Mary (John) Snell of Palm Bay, FL, Karen Lorden of Melbourne, FL, Lawrence (Marcia) Lorden of Valdosta, GA, Brian (Patty) Lorden of LaSalle, Laurette Gunia of Peru, Dan (Theresa) Lorden of Whitehall, MI, Cheryl (Dave) Alleman of Utica, Tracy (Rob) Ellis of East Peoria and Nicole Lorden of Peoria; many grandchildren (including great and great-great) and one sister, Barbara Doane of Chicago. She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Rosemary, George and James “Uncle Buck” Bender and her husband, James – the love of her life.
