Mary L. Spangler

 

 

Mary L. Spangler, 89,  died on Sunday, August 10, 2014  in the Carlisle Regional Medical Center. 

 

  Mary was born on April 30, 1925 in Guthrie, OK to her parents James A. Baty and Kate A. (Baird) Baty.  She had six siblings who preceded her in death; Owen Baty, Blanche Baty, Eva Baty, Clyde Baty, Loren Baty, and Erma Heiser, and two siblings that survive her; Edna Yinger of Franklin, TN and Linda Smith of Newville, PA.  Mary also has numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Mary’s family moved to Pennsylvania in 1943.  Mary graduated from Boiling Springs High School in 1944 where she met her husband to be, Roy K. Spangler during her senior year.  They were married on June 29,1946.

 

 

Mary Spangler worked for Masland Carpet in Carlisle for six years and at Mooreland Elementary for nine years as head secretary.  Mary was a homemaker and devoted mother who helped her husband raise two sons, James C. Spangler now living near Birdsboro, PA and Donald L. Spangler now living near Durango, CO.

 

Mary dedicated her life to serving others in her extended family and her church community.  She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Carlisle, PA. Her service to the Lord was of utmost importance in her daily routine.  Mary’s family and friends will always remember her as cheerful and upbeat no matter what life’s circumstances handed her.  Mary always looked at the bright side of life.  She was skilled at turning life’s inconveniences and adversities into productive and meaningful opportunities.  Mary’s light hearted spirit kept the lives she touched in a constant state of laughter and joy.

Mary Spangler is survived by her husband Roy), her two sons, Jim and Don, and her two grandsons Joseph A. Spangler of Wilmington, DE and Michael L. Spangler near Reading, PA.
