Mary Lamb, 97, of Ottawa, died on Tuesday morning, January 23, 2018, at the Ottawa Pavilion. Mary was born on January 21, 1921, in Freedom Township to John and Catherine (Woods) Kennedy.
She was a graduate of St. Xavier Academy and LPO Junior College where she earned an associate’s degree in education. She began her teaching career in a one-room school at the age of nineteen. She married Louis Lamb on December 26, 1942, at St. Columba Church in Ottawa, and became a mother and a homemaker. After her three sons entered school, she began teaching at Sheridan Grade School where she taught third grade for twenty years. She later earned her bachelor’s degree from St. Francis University. Mary was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Ottawa, Catholic Daughters of America, Illinois Retired Teacher’s Association, and Illinois and National Education Associations. She is survived by three sons, James (Jennie) Lamb, of Ottawa, Lee (Anna) Lamb, of Plainfield, and Donald (Ann Brotherly) Lamb, of Naperville; six grandchildren, Brianne Filanowicz, John, Katelyn, Mike, Erin, and Connor Lamb, and 3 great-grandchildren, Kendall, Jaxon, and Spencer Filanowicz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Louis, on November 17, 1990, one son in infancy, and two brothers, John P. Kennedy and James J. Kennedy.
