Mary Kay Varga (nee Townsend), 86, of Chardon Twp, OH, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, June 13th, 2023 at Ohman Family Living at Blossom in Huntsburg, OH. She was born in Buckhannon, WV on May 10th, 1937 to the late Charles J. and Gladys (Hilliard) Townsend.
She was a former co-owner of Frary’s Restaurant and Truck Stop in Concord and Franks Restaurant in Willoughby for many years. Mary then left the restaurant industry and went back to college at age 50 to earn an associates degree in Nursing. As an LPN, she worked at Blossom Hill Healthcare residence for over 25 years before retiring. Mary always made treat baskets to hand out to residents and staff.
Mary was a life member of the Chardon VFW Post #6519 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed bluegrass music, polka dancing, playing bingo and being an active member of the Word of Faith Church. Mary especially loved cooking meals for church dinners every holiday. She also volunteered her time preparing for Meals on Wheels.
