Mary Kathryn Rose, 73, of Ashland, IL died Monday, April 14, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
She was born May 29, 1940 in Jacksonville, IL, the daughter of Stella Adams. She married Gail Henry Rose on August 6, 1964 in Pittsfield, IL and he preceded her in death on October 7, 1990.
She is survived by a daughter, Michelle Mayes (husband, David) of Virginia; a son, Rick Rose (wife, Dohola) of Sangamon County; five grandchildren, Ethan, Brock and Josh Mayes of Virginia and Morgan and Jordan Rose of Sangamon County; six siblings, Kenneth Adams (wife, Jan) of Chino, CA, Ruth Bettis (husband, Mervan) of Jacksonville, Carole Rose (husband, Paul) of Pittsfield, Susan Tweedy (husband, Bruce) of Meredosia, Doris Snyder (husband, David) of Jacksonville, and Nancy Allen (husband, Ray) of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother and four brothers, Robert Adams (surviving wife, Marcella of Jacksonville), Harold Adams (surviving wife, Pam of Tallahassee, FL), Charles Adams (surviving wife, Barb of Jacksonville), and John Adams.
Mrs. Rose worked as a cook and waitress for several restaurants prior to owning and operating the Copper Penny restaurant in Ashland for several years. A very talented cook, Mary was well known for her pies and cinnamon rolls. She was a member of the Ashland United Methodist Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren.
